PC-BSD Up and Running

Finally 4 hours of khawaari[mental torture] lead me to finally install PC-BSD
from CD1. The fact that I relied on i.e. that the faculty proxy is fast, has
just been nullified. The speed dropped from 40K to 3K today. Murphy's law!!!!
[google for it]. now I have to download and install all the necessary
software which include but are not limited to:-

OpenOffice
Java
Mozilla Firefox
NetBeans

Hopefully this is the start of a new and more stable operating system. Windows
crashes, viruses, spyware and the likes were really affecting my throughput.
And now that I'm a compilers T-A, the only tools I'm using are Java, Python,
gcc, Office, Acrobat, Media Players, Downloading, Browsing etc ...

So I hope that this move is for the better.

Plus 101 TAship is a hassle because the 101 Lab has 1/4 windows PC's. Really
old PC's with windows installed. I really dont know why they havent been
installed with Linux. I mean linux is the thing to breathe new life into old
and dying hardware. So sometimes I need to set up an FTP server and the 1 CD
version of Ubuntu does not come bundled with it. I need to also Download
Knoppix and burn it, but on 3 K bandwidth I guess we can safely assume that
it'll take ages.

Note to Self : Get webmin up and ready too, you'll need it someday.

Okay dudes see you next time.

ACM Softcom

As usual this is your host I-T reporting live, but this time from ACM Softcom speedprogramming competition. Although I've never been a contestant, I'm proud to be a judge. Devising test cases and looking at outputs and handling pressure is fun. Plus you get free food and thats definitely a plus point . *Enjoying sandwiches*

Later on Azi and Hashim are also going to come in as judges for the quiz competition. Oh and Tiffy, I got your email. I'll post updates soon enough. Oh cool, some submissions are coming in. GTG guys.

And congrats to Maria on getting a job, well done sis!!!. I'm now relying her to buy me a ticket to Aussie Land so that I can go and visit and drive her Toyota Supra. :D

See you guys later,

Till then TOODLES!!!!!!!!!!

The office in the stairs

Well as usual this is I-T reporting live from the office in the stairs. I wish it could be in the clouds, but I guess stairs will have to do for now. For those of you who are wondering where the hell I've gotten to, I'm in GIK at the moment working in the Faculty of CS as a TA/Lab Engineer. About GIK well, its different then when I was a student and by different I mean reh eh eh eh eally different. Society work looks meaningless. When I look at kids I look at idiots wasting their time, time that should've been spent on something more productive. The ironic thing is that I used to be one of those idiots. Anyways TA ship is still a good experience. Its fun desiging a lab course and also fun spending entire afternoons drinking Tang and lemonade and later on drinking Milkshakes in the evening. Nashes company is going great and now we're thinking of launching in Sweden too. So hence I'll have to start work on code in order to do that. Need to manage my time a little more in order to accomplish this task at hand.

Apart from that everything is going on great. Azi and Shah were over this weekend. We went to Abaseen the restaurant by the river that literally means Father of the River. However we ended up eating chicken. Due to limited space in Dabba's Car, Farhan, Zubair and I went via cycle. It was really fun. Cycling in the night time is amazing especially if you're holding out a mobile phone in one hand to see where you're going and being ocassionaly blinded by truck lights heading your way. Moreover since the roads were so full of cracks and crevices not to mention the absence of proper roads in some of these areas, the ride was really really bumpy. Visibility was at an all time low because of all the dust in the air courtesy Road Construction. It was fun. When we reached there we ate Chicken Karahi and had the regular cold drinks followed by Kawa which was followed by regular tea. The meal wasnt extraordinary in any way however the experience was great.

Just today I got a phone call for Atif Anwar aka Tiffy. He's a friend of mine who is currently studying in the university of Southern California and doing his Masters in the field of Industrial Engineering. Real fun talking to him after so long. So for those of you who happen to know him, he's doing great.

Apart from that my sis in Australia just called me over the weekend and told me that the Crocodile Hunter Steve just passed away and the whole of Australia is struck by greif. For those of you who knew Steve or watched Animal Planet, he was an energetic and funny individual and really I didnt think he would go away this way.

My brother in sweden on the other hand has to cook his own food [:D] BURN however he can download stuff at a 100K so this has backfired and is obviously not working.

Anyways best of luck people. See you all next time.
