Daal, Bhaat & Machi

In Bengali language, Bhaat is rice, Machi is Fish and Daal is well Daal(Pulses). That is what we had for dinner. It was delicious. Me mom made it. A recipie she probably got when she was in Bangladesh for her Bachelors.

Way to go MOM!!!!!

The night before the night before January the 1st

I think Thursday, December 30th's blog would have been more fitting and concise topic.

Anyways today is the day that I finished Da Vinci Code(took me long enough). Interesting book. Keeps you thinking and thinking. Utterly captivating. Loved the puzzles and stuff. A must read for whoever is in CDES. Will help them greatly with next years treasure hunt. Loved the plot twists in the book too. The style and all was twavific.

Another remarkable acheivement today was that I found out that Mandrake 9.2 does not contain source inside the CD. Instead you have to download it. 36 MB off some site. Man I think I will switch to Mandrake 10 or Fedora Core 2. I just hope they run fine on my home internet server (AMD K6-2 500 Mhz) .

Decembers Blog (Summary)

As some of you might know December was a very hectic month for me where many things had to be done. Keeping my blog updated was one of them at which i failed miserably.

Apart from the few lesser important things were
  1. Semester Projects
  2. Having fun
  3. Celebrating my Boithday
  4. Having more fun
  5. End of semester exams
1. The projects

About the Projects heh. We almost built a rat robot in Microprocessor interfacing. The parts worked but putting it together was altogether a different story but it was much better than Bill in the other corner with his microcontorller based telekenesis project which he claimed was not working due to some negative dark aura caused by Neptune or something .

In Dip we made an image editor and viewer in Matlab. Nothing would have been possible without my pal Sissy Miser cos he was the group motivator. He didnt even get us pizza (some motivator). Next time Moody we elect you as group motivator

2. Having Fun

Tv Series ........ Simpsons. ..... ... . .. .. more simpsons ........... d`oh.......... dope ...........
Mind your language......... you clever monkey and lots of other stuff.

3. Boithday Celebrations
3.1 The Grand Boithday Party.
Statistics : 13 GIKIANS with boithdays in December. some wise guy thought it was a good idea to give a combined b`day party. 200/13 + b`day bumps+ no presents is unacceptable. Venue : Lawn outside faculty lounge Date : a couple of days before the 14th Time : Forgotten
3.2 More Bumps on the 14th my real b`day (Ouch)

4. Having more fun

Refer to step number 2

5. End of Semester Exams

Well this is a different story altogether. I really ought to go now. :P

We've gone gold errm bronze

Today my blog has gone gold (or bronze whichever coins are made out of). This day shall be commemorated every year in this epic blog of mine. A triumphant victory.

After a lot of begging, I finally got Eidi extracted out of apa jee(the gikian one[Confused! Then you dont know her]) Although the amount was not much (1 Rupee), but it was extracted by sheer determination and a dedicated perverse approach.

This is the first of many small steps that will get me new RAM.

APA JEE You are very greedy and mean but I've seen worse,

THANKS FOR THE ONE RUPEE!!!! :D

Formal apology!!!

I'm really sorry for this gap during which my blog was not being updated. I was having net problems and if you dont buy that then I was suffering from ibcicuisdemaskosa. :D

Just to let you in on the stuff you missed:-

  • A 4 hour walk from 3:00 to 7:00 am that covered approximately a distance of slightly over 20 Kilometers.

  • A mysterious pizza box in my room that turned out to be a cafe burger I asked Rappie to bring which took me nearly an hour to try to locate its owner once I gave up hope and opened it(me).
Thats it for today :D

The night is over and I'm really really weary

After dinner I came back to my room discussed some implemention issues and approaches of the Mousatron with Hashim till 3:00 am.
After that it was a couple of 8051 e-Books and Data Sheets for me. It didnt take me long to get bored though and I ended up watching Legends of the Fall again(Well technically it was the first time because I fell asleep the previous time I tried to watch it). The movie got really emotional and stuff.
The start was a bit sucky. Everybody was just too happy, but the storywriter certainly knew how to set that right. No!!!! He overdid it. In a nutshell this movie is about a dude. And everyone he knows keeps dying one by one until he is the only one left and then he is killed by a bear.
Anyways this movie is a must see, I rate it something like 4 out of 5.
(Note: I am slightly overrating this because this is Theeta's fav movie, and I'd like to encourage him to do something non academic for a change)

Legends of the Fall Trivia : What was the youngest sons role in the war:-
a)A cook
b)A T.V. Salesman
c)A German Translator <<---- Where the heck did this come from

And Now I must sleep Toodles

Thud Thud Thud!!!!

The night was calm outside, the cold air was circulating through the room like a draft. All of this gave rise to an eerie atmoshphere. And then unexpectedly, all of a sudden the silence was broken,
*Thud Thud Thud*
Who is it, Hashim??
Yes Boss!!!
And just like that, everything came rushing into my head, my Project partner is here already. So I invited him in, we talked about The Priory of Sion and Opus Dei and a bit later headed off for dinner.

Back in me room

After an action packed journey that was full of adventure, lots of delays, expensive motorway service area food and cunning taxi drivers, I sit here in my room like a lazy bum. Talk about contrast. I guess I'll go to sleep.

I-T slams hard *thud* upon the bed

But Mommy I dont want to go to skoool....

My time here (at home) is getting over, but I must go out in a couple of hours at 12:00 am and set out for Pindi and from there to GIKI. This trip like many other trips to and back from GIKI is going to be a very long and painful journey. The long part is before getting to pir Wadhai Van Depot and the painful part comes after that. Okay gtg now my mom's calling me. I better be getting packed

*here is usually used in the GIKI context but it will be mentioned when it is used elsewhere

Trip to the market (The real deal)

.... continued from the last trip to the market post.

I finally made the trip that I had been waiting for since a long time. So at 5 p.m. ish me and my sister set out to the, "G&H block market" situated around my home. I took her around to all kinds of shops. Little shops, big shops, good shops, stupid shops, shops with people and shops without people. I figured that this was my way of getting my revenge for all the times she took me to color collection with her.
Anyways the stores didnt have Matlab compiler, they didnt have any Matlab book (Mannn!!! I hate Defence), they didnt have good RPG's even. But on the bright side I got my hands on "The Green Mile", by Stephen King and the Da Vinci code. I hope these will keep me amused for the next couple of weeks during classes and stuff :P.

College Friends and a whole lot of chicken

Well!!! My trip to the market yesterday didnt turn out what it meant to be, just as I was about to leave the vicinity of my abode, the door bell rang and in came all of my Beaconite Buddies. Had to catch up on all the latest gossip and stuff. After hours and hours of arguments about where to go, we set off to M.M. Alam road and finally arrived to Nandos.
Nandos is a portugese restauraunt that is famous for their hot sauce drenched chicken and spicy peri peri sauces and fries. It was quite fun. I singlehandedly devoured a half a chicken. While eating a lot of different topics were discussed like world politics, racisim and not surprisingly I slept through half of it.
After that we cleared out the bill set off back home, with one or two detour spots on the way. (You know for the traditional Ras Malai :P)
Anyways I'm really tired and I'm going to bed.

Trip to market

Today I am going to be making my first official maiden voyage to the outside after returning from GIKI on Friday. I am going to be going to the CD store. Need a couple of new CD's and a some reading material.
I hope to get my hands on:-
  1. Matlab Compiler 4
The latest in Matlab to efficient C++ code and application generation from mfiles thanks to our friends at Mathworks hopefully this will be of great help in developing applications from Matlab. I'm planning to test this on my upcoming DIP project this semester. I just hope it is availible nearby. Keep your fingers crossed.

2. Some Nice RPG

Its been eons since the last RPG game I played. I need to play co-op mode of some new RPG with my pal Bass back at GIKI.

3. Some nice Book

I hope the Warcraft Series in novels have made their way to the markets at Lahore. Other than this the Da Vinci code might make a nice buy. And I need books on Matlab 7.0. The net has some great material but I want something I can hold on to in case my Hard Drive Crashes.

Eid

Eid Mubarak to all!!!. I know this should've been posted earlier, but its never too late or is it :S.

My Eid was the same as usual, boring. But hey I got to check out Need For Speed Underground 2 and it is a swell game. The game is in a city of its own GTA style. You can go around get sponsored, challenge just around any race car driver you find on the streets with a new feature in which the winner has to lose the chase. The driving style is not all that much different but they've jumped up the value of this EA games release by putting in more game modes, rides(including Jeeps and stuff) , visuals and stuff. They even have an exclusive multiplayer mode, but I havent been lucky to check it out as yet.

Anyways NFS is a game that keeps getting better. All in all I rate this game a 4 out of 5. So if you want something special this Eid then pull up your socks and head on off to the nearest CD store.

The journey begins ...

Greetings people and welcome to my Blog. I hope to to keep this updated regularly and stuff. So here goes.
